Elco Electric Propulsion motor and Panda generator installed 2010. The EP-2000 model is a 10kw 72v brushless AC motor and is considered to have the power equivalent to a 20 hp diesel engine. This boat is a true hybrid -- it can run on batteries alone, or with the generator operating and charging the batteries. The seller reports that the boat can run for:

- 3.5 knots at 20 amps -- eight hours of runtime without the generator or continuously with the generator operating (as long as the diesel fuel holds out)
- 5.0 knots requires 40 amps -- four hours of runtime without the generator or eight hours with the generator.

See the Elco website for information about this Elco electric propulsion motor: http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/products/elco-ep-motor/elco-ep-motor-2000.shtml

Six 12-volt 220 a-hr AGM batteries comprise the 72-volt propulsion bank.

This is a lapstrake / clinker hull crafted from Norwegian white pine. Built in Norway in 1977 following traditional methods -- reportedly using only hand tools! Planks are fastened using copper rivets. Varnished hull and topsides. All new safely glass windows and seals in 2012. A very tight boat. One plank was replaced in 2010 after another boat hit it, but there is no evidence of rot or deterioration of the wooden structure.

The current owner modified the interior extensively and tastefully, and added a complete canvas / isinglass enclosure for the cockpit.

20 gallon stainless steel fuel tank for generator.

Broker's Comments

A rare and traditionally-beautiful wooden boat with green power technology!

Custom Snekka 28 with electric hybrid propulsion.

This traditional Norwegian-built lapstrake double-ender was built from Norwegian white pine following the Norwegian Snekka design and the methods handed down from the Vikings! She's a real tribute to Scandinavian wooden boat-building prowess, and would be an exceptional find even in Norway today. In Seattle she's a rarity and a stunner. The owner, a commercial fisherman of proud Norwegian heritage acquired this boat and made many upgrades, including the conversion of the boat to a hybrid diesel-electric drive system. It's an extraordinary experience to pilot this gem noiselessly, and she attracts admiring looks and waves wherever she goes.

If you're considering a Duffy or ElectaCraft electric boat you should look at this one -- she's got so much more to offer. And if you're looking for a traditional and classic design -- they don't come more classic than this!

The seller has turned to other interests so this "labor of love" and culturally significant gem is available at a fraction of its cost.
