VIRTUAL TOUR - VIDEO - 80 TO 100 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS CUSTOM STAYSAIL SCHOONER!

Originally built for the screenwriter/director Preston Sturges, she was primarily used to entertain Hollywood's elite during the 30's and 40's.
Humphrey Bogart skippered this schooner in the 1936 Transpac race to Hawaii. During the Second World War she was pressed into service, reportedly becoming part of the Hooligan Fleet, patrolling the West Coast for submarines. Following the war, she was returned to Sturges who then sold her to Howard Hughes. Hughes secretly married actress Terri Moore on board. Their marriage certificate was still aboard years later.
In 1961, John Wayne chartered her, sailing from San Carlos, Mexico to Hawaii and then back to San Juan Island.

When her current owners took possession, they commissioned Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op to do a complete ($1.2 million) restoration (detailed elsewhere here).

Needless to say, this classic staysail schooner is one-of-a-kind and an incredible opportunity for the right person, offered for literally pennies on the dollar.

UPDATE, JUNE 2019.
PRICE REDUCED $50,000.

A recent inspection revealed an issue near the stern of the boat. The problem appears as slow water seepage near the planking beneath the cockpit sole. The boat was not surveyed at the time by a licensed marine surveyor and the source of the leakage is unknown. To assist a purchaser with the potential cost of repairs the owner has substantially reduced the asking price.
