The US Marine/Hino diesels are relatively low hours and are well regarded in the industry. These are the naturally aspirated type which have proven very reliable and avoid the extra maintenance issues associated with the turbocharged engines that were an option. Also included are spare shafts and propellers which are new and unused.
The Onan three cylinder generator is completely enclosed in a sound absorbing jacket.
The owner has fitted a Hart inverter system.
There are three "8D" batteries for separate starting for each engine and a dedicated "house" battery.

The Bayliner 3888 Motoryacht is a classic cruiser design based on a shallow draft, tunnel drive hull configuration. Experience has shown that this model stands the test of time. These boats have always been popular and continue to be in demand. This example is in very good condition considering its age and is priced substantially below the market. The owner recently hauled the boat, repainted the bottom and installed new zincs. The full "Sunbrella" canvas around the cockpit and flying bridge is only two years old and appears as new. The owner also added an aftermarket hard top extension over the cockpit that substantially increases the flying bridge area and provides shade and shelter in the cockpit.
The very long foredeck area is accessible by walking around the side decks and includes a padded section for sun bathing.
The owner has added an additional 40 gallon water tank with electronic water level monitoring at the helm.

One boards from the swim platform and through a gate in the transom to the large aft cockpit. A heavy sliding teak door provides entry to the main saloon. The saloon floors are carpeted with the large saloon table and "C" shaped seating to port. In the starboard rear of the saloon is an "L" shaped wet bar including an ice maker, sink and built-in blender. The helm station is forward to starboard. A large flat shelf area is to port ahead of the table and seating and provides room for TV.
The upholstery in the main saloon was recently redone in a top quality "ultra suede" material considerably superior to the original covering. The cushions were reshaped for greater comfort and appear as new. The floors of the galley, head and forward compartment are real teak and holly in very good condition. The two head configuration includes a bath tub and shower.
Continuing forward down three stairs to the galley... The galley provides a three-burner electric stove top and range. A relatively large refrigerator and freezer unit is mounted opposite. A stainless double sink is installed in the counter. To port is the entry door to the middle or guest cabin and head.
Continuing forward is the bow compartment or master stateroom with separate head. The master stateroom includes a full queen size bed with walk around room. The staterooms are fitted with very nice custom bedspreads, headboards and curtains. The midships compartment head, with bath tub and shower also opens to the master stateroom. The midships compartment includes a queen size bed. The midships cabin is reached by a separate door from the galley area and includes a second, private head with shower and tub (referenced above).
From the cockpit, one can reach the flying bridge by a ladder through the cockpit hard top. The flying bridge area is fully enclosed with canvas and clear panels. All the upholstery on the flying bridge was recently replaced and looks new.

The electronics and navigation package on this yacht is somewhat limited by contemporary standards, lacking a multifunction chart plotter. The basic radar, GPS and depth sounder are installed and functioning and the new owner can easily install the latest chart plotter system of their choice.
The flying bridge engine instrument clear plastic lenses are somewhat fogged and need a good polishing. Both helm stations are otherwise well-equipped and in good condition.

Broker's Comments
This Bayliner 3888 is one of the best and most popular of the larger Bayliner Motoryacht series. Many people state a preference over the later models. This example is in very good condition and benefits from superior design and materials used on this model. For example, while later Bayliners often suffer from aluminum corrosion on door and window frames, this model uses a solid teak sliding door from the cockpit to the main saloon and the window frames appear to be anodized in a fashion that does not seem to be as susceptible to corrosion. The interior window frames and sills are solid teak in excellent condition. The only notable corrosion on this boat is on the aluminum case of the anchor windlass.
The electronics and navigation package on this boat is somewhat limited and a new owner would probably want to install a chart plotter system and perhaps polish the lenses of the fly bridge engine instruments. While the upholstery and bedding is essentially new throughout the boat, the saloon carpet shows wear consistent with the age of the boat and hours used and, though serviceable, would probably be replaced by a new owner. However, this boat still represents a real bargain on a solid cruising boat with substantial accommodations.
