Waterline Boats welcomes Dave Kaiser as the newest yacht broker for WLB / Boatshed Port Townsend. To get to know Dave a little better, we asked him a few questions about his background and desire to become a yacht broker. Read on to hear directly from Dave on his start in boating, and what potential buyers and sellers should know about his dedication to hard work and honesty.

Initial Connection to Waterline Boats

I met Van Helker (Waterline Boats / Boatshed Port Townsend broker), while walking the docks in Port Ludlow. We discussed his work boat and his oyster farming business, and eventually our conversation turned to his work with Waterline Boats, Boatshed Port Townsend and Helmsman Trawlers®. I discussed my history and great joy of the marine world, and my desire to shift my career in that direction. He proposed that we meet to talk more about working with Waterline Boats, and after some more talking and a meeting with the Seattle office I was off to my boat broker start.

Boating Background

My very first memory of being on a boat was when I was a young child, sitting in a rowboat with my dad, holding onto a little fishing pole. I continued to fish with my dad, from rowboats and offshore charter boats, and at an early age I was out alone on the water, rowing and fishing solo. I have been boating ever since.

A Career Pivot for the Love of Boating and Meeting People

I love boating. Any excuse to be out on the water is a great reason to be out on the water. And, I love meeting people. Becoming a boat broker allows me to spend time meeting people, sharing mutual joy and passion about boating, and assisting others in the pursuit of their dreams on the water.

Favorite on the Water Activities

I greatly love being on the water, for any reason, even if it is just taking a ferry into Seattle. I love to fish, but I don’t get nearly as much time fishing as I would like. And, I really like to sail. I used to race sailboats year-round; I miss the excitement, the competition, and the camaraderie.

Most of all, I love to be out on anchor, watching and feeling the sun set, knowing that my life is sustained by the boat, and held securely by an anchor that holds on the bottom.

The Choice of Waterline Boats/Boatshed Port Townsend

Meeting Van Helker, and Scott and Lisa Helker were what made me choose to join Waterline Boats/Boatshed Port Townsend in particular. We spent some time getting to know each other, our perspectives, and our approaches to serving people and interacting through business. I believe that we share many common values and goals, and that serving customers and their satisfaction is our primary objective.

What Potential Sellers or Buyers Should Know About Dave

I can be trusted to be honest, to work hard. I will do my best to serve potential sellers and buyers in accomplishing their goals and realizing their dreams.
