An impressive parade of historic ships and vessels passed through the Ballard Locks yesterday in celebration of the Hiram M Chittenden Ballard Locks' 100th birthday.

The beautiful schooner Adventuress had the honor to lead more than 40 historic vessels of various types and sizes, including the Virginia Five, down the ship canal and on to Lake Union.

The Ballard Locks are an essential part of Seattle - connecting Puget Sound to Lake Union and Lake Washington. Both commercial and recreational boats have benefited daily since it first opened in July 1917.
