Opening Day - an event unique to Seattle is the official kick-off of Seattle's boating season!

For many in the Pacific Northwest Opening Day means the end of a rainy Washington winter and the beginning of sunshiny days. It's the nation’s largest regional celebration of water, spring, and the beginning of the best season for boaters.

The event starts the first Saturday in May. This year will be May 6th with “Emerald City Aahs” the theme. The celebration begins with the blast of a cannon at noon and the Grand Opening Day Boat Parade. Seattle boaters decorate their boats and participate in morning crew and sailboat races. The annual event stretches back nearly a century. Every year, thousands of boaters and boat enthusiasts head to Lake Union and Lake Washington to take part.

With the Waterline Boats Lake Union location it’s hard not getting swept up in all the activity and buzz of Opening Day. In fact, owners Scott and Lisa Helker as well as several of the Waterline Boats brokers will be out on their boats enjoying the Opening Day festivities and weekend.

Some of our buyers and sellers have purchased and sold boats with Opening Day in mind. It’s not only a fun event for boat lovers but just day one of Seattle’s official 2017 boating season.
