Repowered with Perkins Sabre diesels -- both engines were purchased new and were installed by Shoreline Diesel in Port Townsend. The engine with 1600 hours was installed first as a result of mechanical break down of its predecessor, brought on by a water pump issue. Then some time later the other engine was replaced.

There are dripless packing glands installed on both shafts.

Entering from the transom door into the custom glass enclosed cockpit gives access to the main saloon entrance through double teak doors. The grand saloon has windows all around for outstanding views.
The galley forms the forward end of the saloon with a large counter for casual dining and meal preparation. The galley includes a propane stove with oven, a microwave oven and full size refrigerator with freezer above. The Norcold refrigerator runs on 12 or 110 volts. There is plenty of storage above and below the counters.

Up four steps is the raised pilothouse. There is a raised bench across the aft with a shelf and windows looking aft. Forward is a large dining-chart table. All the way forward is the large helm station with excellent visibility all around. Port and starboard are access doors to the Portuguese bridge which leads to the foredeck, boat deck and the upper helm.

Down the spiral staircase leads to the double guest suite, stacked washer and dryer, and guest head. Just aft is the master double with ensuite head with a shower enclosure. This owners' cabin also has a nice built-in vanity with a counter and mirror. Both cabins have plenty of storage in drawers, shelves, and hanging lockers.

Here we are 43 years later and we see that this design concept is still popular with builders today. The versatility of use -- whether long range cruising, running a charter operation or liveaboard -- has proven the popularity of the raised pilothouse trawler.

Broker's Comments

Both the seller and the broker agree that this 48 Meridian Long Range Trawler has some needs which will qualify it as a "project." However it is safe to use right now and the next owners can move aboard and make the necessary repairs as they wish. Most of the problems are the result of water leaks that have damaged some of the areas in the interior. The strong points: these pilot house trawlers with the Portuguese bridge are a desirable design; the accommodations include twin double staterooms, each with their own head; beautiful main saloon and galley plus the large pilot house with easy access to the outer deck; newer Perkins Sabre engines; and comfortable movement through the water. This a very desirable trawler being offered at an attractive price.

The boat deck has been professionally rebuilt in a way that is superior to the original fiberglass layup.
